Cloud Infrastructure Engineer - AWS

The Cloud Engineer (AWS) is responsible for the design, deployment, and management of Amazon Web Services (AWS) infrastructure across the organisation. This role ensures that cloud environments are secure, scalable, and cost-effective, supporting both operational needs and strategic initiatives. Working closely with the Cloud Engineering Manager and other technical teams, the AWS Specialist provides expert guidance on cloud architecture, automation, and optimisation. The role is central to enabling digital transformation, improving service delivery, and ensuring the organisation maximises its investment in AWS technologies.
Please note, this role may be based from either our Hessle or Prudhoe offices (3 days per week, with 2 remote)
What you'll be doing
Design and implement AWS infrastructure solutions including EC2, S3, RDS, VPC, IAM, and Lambda.
Manage and optimise AWS environments for performance, security, and cost-efficiency.
Implement and maintain cloud governance, security policies, and compliance frameworks.
Automate cloud operations using tools such as CloudFormation, Terraform, and AWS CLI.
Support cloud migration projects and integration with on-premises systems.
Monitor cloud services and respond to incidents and performance issues.
Maintain accurate documentation of cloud architecture, configurations, and procedures.
Collaborate with IT teams to deliver cloud-based solutions aligned with business needs.
Provide 3rd line support and act as an escalation point for AWS-related issues.
Stay up to date with AWS developments and recommend improvements or new services.
Ensure adherence to IT security policies, data protection regulations, and industry best practices.
Skills, Qualifications, and Experience
Essential skills:
Proven experience in designing, deploying, and managing AWS environments.
Strong knowledge of core AWS services (EC2, S3, RDS, VPC, IAM, CloudWatch, etc.).
Experience with cloud automation and Infrastructure as Code (e.g. CloudFormation, Terraform).
Proficiency in scripting and automation (e.g. Python, Bash, AWS CLI).
Understanding of cloud security, identity management, and compliance.
Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
Desirable skills:
Experience with container services (e.g. ECS, EKS, Docker).
Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices in AWS.
Knowledge of monitoring and logging tools (e.g., CloudWatch, ELK Stack).
Exposure to hybrid cloud environments and cloud migration strategies.
Understanding of ITIL service management practices.
Experience with cost management and optimisation in AWS.
